The fiction of Madeleine L'Engle is a wonderfully interwoven world. Characters from one series of books mingle with characters from others, unobtrusively and sometimes surprisingly. Meg and Calvin from A Wrinkle in Time grow up and marry, and Meg gives birth to Polyhymnia (Poly) O'Keefe, although this is not spelled out as such in the novels. Poly and her family meet Adam Eddington when he comes to study with Dr. O'Keefe in The Arm of the Starfish, and Adam reappears in A Ring of Endless Light, a book in the Austin family series. There are many such crossovers, and even a crossover from real life to fiction, in the case of Canon Tallis, a friend of Madeleine L'Engle, who appears in several books.
